Loki went to the vet today for annual shots. He weighed in at 25 lbs. A normal weight for a Shiba.
But then the vet said that Loki was getting a bit fat and should go on a diet. *Gasp* Really? Less yummy food?
I guess it wasn't so much the pounds on the scale that determines if a dog should go on a diet, since 25 lbs sounds reasonable to me, but rather how much fat you can pinch on the body. And I do agree, you can pinch a bit of fat on him.
Poor Loki. Less food.
Oh no!!!!! Not Loki, too! I think those vets are on crack.... Well, if it's any consolation, Winnie has lost .4 lbs in 3 weeks. LOL... It's a slow process, but we're getting there.
ReplyDeleteVi - just remember to not do anything drastically. Since I can't do too much more exercising with Winnie, we're a bit limited there. But, you can always increase his activity- by doing some jogging/roller blading. And, just cutting back on his intake of food and treats can help, too!
When I consulted with Brian (our trainer), he mentioned that if food intake is cut too dramatically, you can end up with food aggression issues. So, we've gone with a very slow and gradual process. Feel free to contact me if you have questions...
Tierce is still lean, but he's just over a year, so he's still burning those calories. We've also started bikejoring together (although he doesn't seem to think that he should be helping me get up hills, the bugger) so I think that also contributes. I wish I had his metabolism.
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose it could have anything to do with that double churn ice cream you had last week? My parents call me "Chunky Sheebie" all the time. I have NO idea what they're talking about. (I love ice cream, too!)
