Loki jumping

Hm... maybe Loki would be good at agility. Or at the very least, I think he'd have lots of fun with it. We did not encourage him to jump when he was younger, since jumping is bad for growing puppy joints. But now he is over a year old. Here we have a video of him clearing a major obstacle (me) with no problems!

Update on the New Toy

Thank you to the anonymous commenter who suggested more kibble. I filled it to about a 1/3 full yesterday, and Loki had a much easier time getting it out. It's now enough of a challenge that it keeps him occupied. And from time to time, he can actually get some food out, so he isn't discouraged. Yay!

Oh... I just checked up on the toy and the kibble is almost all gone. Hm... not sure why I bothered being worried that he would be discouraged. Silly me.

I bought it at Target, sort of as an impulse buy. It was an impulse buy because I wasn't planning on buying it. But it wasn't, because I've had my eye on that toy for awhile now. You can find it on Amazon.com and other various websites and pet stores.

It's so cute to watch him play with it. Who needs TV when you can be entertained by a Shiba?

A new toy

Loki got a new toy today! Wow-whee! It's a treat dispensing toy called "Tug a Jug." We used to put some kibble in a water bottle and give that for Loki to play with. The problem with that was he would chew on the plastic; that's not very safe. This toy seems fairly indestructible and sturdy. However, it seems like it's much more difficult for Loki. He's been at it on and off all day and I'm not sure whether he ever got anything out. I hope he doesn't get discouraged.

Rain

Since when does Loki not like water? What? Loki used to love playing in the sprinklers, puddles, & the rain that dropped on his head. He loved it.

Today it was rain-y. (Notice I didn't say raining, for that is indeed a rare occurrence in Southern California.) First, I had a bit of trouble trying to get Loki to cross an ugly stream of rainwater. In the end, I herded him. I've learned that herding him from behind works much better than pulling him on the leash.

Then I put him in the car for a very short drive (only one side of the apt complex to the other). When we reached our destination, he didn't want to leave the car. I picked him up and put him on the ground only to see him jump right back into the car. Huh? I don't get it? I know he likes car rides, but he doesn't love it that much. Once I got him out of the car, it was a sprint all the way back to our apartment. Back in the apartment, I witness a quick Shiba 500 (only 2 laps) followed by a frantic cleaning of the paws. Finally, he's happy.

Here's my conjecture. Maybe as a puppy, he really did love playing in the water, just like we all enjoyed splashing in the puddles as children. But now he's grown up and rain just means that he gets dirty. Similarly, we as adults get irritated when our clothes get dirty in the rain. I don't know if this is what's going on, but that's my anthropomorphic theory.
