A bad, terrible day

Since we consulted with the dog behaviorist back in May, we hadn't had any fights, bites, or other incidents. But unfortunately, our run of good luck ran out on Monday. We had both a dog fight and a bite. I wasn't present for either situation. In the morning, Yun put the dogs out in the backyard, and as he put it, both dogs wanted to sit by the door. Then Yun was going to give them rawhides, but they got into a fight even before he gave them any rawhides.

Boo...

After Yun called to tell me about the dog fight, I called our behaviorist. Unfortunately, she must be on vacation. Her voice mail message said that she was out until next week.

More boo...

Lastly, after Yun got home from work, the dogs seemed perfectly fine and calm. They were playing with each other and generally happy. Yun was petting Loki on the head, just like usual, and then all of a sudden with no warning at all whatsoever, Loki bit him. We don't know why. It was extremely upsetting, especially because there was no warning.

Most-est boo...

I'm sorry to hear you are having aggression issues :( What has your behaviourist told you seems to be the triggers, and/or what kind of aggression is it?

The aggression with Jujube is completely different from that with us. With Jujube it's apparently about heirarchy and dominance. Loki wants to be top dog. And while Jujube doesn't necessarily contend him for the spot, she doesn't like to be bossed around. She will hold her own.

With us, the behaviorist had said it was fear aggression with handling. Still, this new bite puzzles us, so we hope to consult her again.

I had written about this before here:

Did Loki break skin?

That is a bummer...

Unfortunately, yes.

I'm sorry to hear this. It's surprising that Loki would do that after all those time with you. Are you sure he's not in physical pain somewhere?

The most upsetiing part is the fact that the doc is not available when you need one.

Sorry to hear about that, Vi. I hope the aggression issues goes away. We have dog-dog aggressions with Yuki. Well, she can some-what tolerate them if she's met them consistantly, but other than that, ehh..

I was wondering the same thing, if Loki maybe had an undetected bruise from playing and your husband unfortunately found it.

I am also sorry that he broke skin.

What happened after the bite?

Oh no... I'm so sorry to read this.

When Yun was petting Loki (and just before the bite), was there any trigger? i.e. - like Jujube was coming towards Yun or Loki?

After he bit Yun, did he come to 'apologize'? Winnie will come over and lick our hands like she's sorry that she bit/nipped us. It's helpful to know if he was "sorry", because then at least you know that he knows he did something he wasn't supposed to.

Masako, even most humans don't apologize for their wrong doings...how can you expect the dogs to apologize?

And where is the "Doc" dog behaviorist when you need one?

My Dog had a back injury (probably from the shiba 500) that we didnt know about and she bit my husband when he was playing with her. Like some of the others have said, maybe he had an injury or was sick.
