Allergy Evidence

Juju is apparently still having allergy issues. She has these tiny scabs in a bunch of places. Now that she's shedding, the scabs come off with her fur.

We don't know what's causing her allergies. We originally guessed that it was chicken. But she has now been on fish for the past few weeks, and her condition isn't improving. It's possible that she has seasonal allergies. I know that we definitely did not see this the last time she shed in the spring. I'm afraid to furminate her this time around, because doing so will pull out all these scabs. And that seems like it would definitely hurt her.

Poor Jujube.

Does she have that stuff on her belly too ?

Akira had something similar on his belly, we did not know what he was allergic to so we swtiched to raw and now I am pretty sure he's intolerant to gluten. I have also found out that many kibble brands advertise that they do not contain gluten but they actually do. So we're still on raw and it's going pretty good.

My cocker Sunny has that problem also, but he has been on a raw diet (no grains) since he was a puppy, and we haven't had issues since. He occasionally gets yucky ears, but that is when he gets too many commercially made treats. Poor Jujube.

The person that writes the Misanthropic Shiba Inu has a really bad problem with her pup Tierce. Might want to converse with her to see if she has any hints.

Cooper gets those after a bath; maybe it's a topical skin allergy and she's allergic to the shampoo you use on her.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but she didn't have this before in the spring or summer. So I think that should rule out gluten and shampoo, because she had those things back in the spring and summer. Maybe it's seasonal. Not sure. We'll see how the winter goes.

I know this is an old thread but did you get to the bottom of what was causing this? I have a 12 yr old Shiba and he has these scabs too. The vet said NOT to give him a raw diet as that was too rich for him but the anti-allergy food they suggest is making no difference whatsoever. He's been checked for fleas, ticks amd mange etc (not that) and has had recurrent ear infections too. Asked if was a yeast issue and told no. Hate seeing the old man uncomfortable so any suggestions would be appreciated..
