Shedding Season

How long does your shedding season last?

Ours lasts approximately from Labor Day to Thanksgiving. Jujube started on Labor Day and Loki is almost finished. One of the downsides to being a shiba owner.

My two shed so completely different, it's hard to say. Sami my Cream seems to shed very little. Mostly in the hind end and it's a fight to brush her, she just hates it!

Miko, the Black and Tan can shed 2 Shiba's worth of fur. I would say she sheds for about 6 to 8 weeks. Miko started about 2 weeks ago and so far not a lot. I think it's a little delayed this year as we have had such unseasonably warm weather. Here we are towards the end of November and we are still getting days in the 60's.

I've lost track this year, since Rudy had one of the thickest and worst coats ever. I think our younger shibas stopped heavily shedding in early October? They probably started early summer this year. It was a very, very furry summer.

My Shiba joined the family this past March, and she had already started shedding and didn't finish until sometime in April. I think she has started again and I don't know when it will end, but golly I hope it ends soon!

My black and tan Shiba mix sheds twice a year starting in May and December at least six weeks each time. This is one reason I'm sure she really is a Shiba mix. She's a rescue from the local SPCA, and I think they got that information when the owner surrendered her.

The Furminator is our friend during shedding season.
