Baby has forgotten

For all those who wondered or thought that Baby would be traumatized, he seems to have completely forgotten about the incident. Today, he played with both dogs just as before. He practically trampled Juju this morning. I told her to move, but she didn't want to. She was lying down and didn't want to get up. So she just tolerated him. Interestingly enough, Baby figured out how to maneuver around her, albeit clumsily. She didn't move an inch. Completely non-reactive. I wish Loki were that good.

Baby also seemed to have no fear approaching Loki. We practiced more food sharing between Baby and Loki. Tonight, it was string cheese! Yum, yum.

So happy to hear that, or I am almost relieved. Following this blog from the near begining, if you end up sending Loki away, it would really break my heart. Hope you can have a great family with your baby and two shibas, overcoming issues like you have done before. Yes, you can do it!

Hey Vi, I just popped in for an update and saw this post and the one on commitment.

I know you love Loki very much and that you'll do everything possible to make it work, but that you will also be smart enough to know if/when to give up and let the breeder find Loki a child free home if that is what is necessary.

You know me... 99.9% of the time, I'll say there is never any reason to give up a dog, ever. BUT, in all truthfulness, there is always an exception to the rule.

Regarding drugs, NYCSR took in a dog a few years ago that the owners were considering putting on Prozac. I spoke with several trainers and vets about it at the time and they all advised AGAINST putting any dog with bite inhibition issues on drugs. Apparently they can go through all the warning signals a lot faster and it actually leads to more bites instead of less.

Good luck and hugs to the whole family!

Just fyi, Loki does not have bite inhibition issues. In fact, Loki has perfect control of the strength of his bites. This has been worked on since he was a pup. Loki's issues stem from anxiety.
